Wetlands are an integral part of nature’s effective system of pollutant control and provide habitat for a diverse range of wildlife.
1. Wetlands are critical to the vitality of Lake George. They protect water quality by helping to remove nutrients, sediment and pollution carried to the
lake through stormwater runoff.
2. Wetlands are considered to be some of the most productive wildlife habitat, providing food, cover and shelter for hundreds of species of birds,
reptiles and amphibians.
3. Lake George has lost hundreds of acres of wetlands due to filling and dredging activities.
