George R Hearst III

George Hearst is the publisher/CEO of the Times Union, the area’s largest multimedia company serving New York’s Greater Capital Region.  Hearst has more than three decades of experience in the media and publishing industry. A California native, George joined the Times Union in 1989 as director of operations and planning and previously served as vice president, associate publisher and general manager.  George, a director of the Hearst Corporation, also serves on numerous community boards including the Center for Economic Growth, The College of Saint Rose, University at Albany Foundation, Inc., Albany Institute of History & Art, St. Peter’s Health Partners, Center for Disability Services, Double-H Hole in the Woods Ranch, Saratoga Performing Arts Center, Opera Saratoga, Palace Performing Arts Center, New York State Archives Partnership Trust, National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame, among others.

Philanthropy is a family tradition for George.  He has led several fundraising initiatives and currently chairs the St. Peter’s Hospital Capital Campaign.  His civic involvement has been recognized by awards that include the Distinguished Citizens Award from the Boy Scouts of America Twin Rivers Councils; President’s Award from the YMCA; Community Service Award from the Teamsters Care Program Local 294; the Circle of Hope Award by Hope House; Humanitarian of the Year from the Center for Disability Services; the Junior Achievement Business Hall of Fame; the Community Service Award from Hudson-Mohawk Association of Colleges and Universities; the Distinguished Service Award from the University at Albany; the Citizen of the University Award from Alumni Association–SUNYA; and the William Golub Tikkun Olam Award from the United Jewish Federation of Northeastern New York.

George and his wife Christine have one daughter, Emma, who is an accomplished executive chef and restaurateur in New York City and Hawaii.
